Evolve?
Asked by Nixin72 8 years ago
If I play an Experiment One followed by Wild Nacatl, Loam Lion or Kird Ape, will creatures enter the battlefield with the abilities already, so would the Loam Lion enter as a 2/3? Therefore triggering the ability of the Experiment One? I'm fairly certain it would because otherwise I see no reason to play it, but I have been questioning it.

Additionally, note that the evolve trigger checks its conditions on resolution as well. This means that if the Loam Lion became a 1/1 again (say, your opponent responds to the evolve trigger with a Tectonic Edge on your Temple Garden which was your only forest), then the evolve trigger won't resolve even though the Lion was a 2/3 when it entered play.

Wild Nacatl, Loam Lion, and Kird Ape do not have triggered abilities. They have static abilities.
Because static abilities apply as objects are entering the battlefield, Wild Nacatl can enter as a 1/1, 2/2/, or 3/3 depending on whether you control a Mountain, Plains, both, or neither. Similarly, Loam Lion and Kird Ape can enter as 1/1s or 2/3s.
Assuming Experiment One is a 1/1 still, its evolve ability will trigger if any of the other three creatures enter as anything other than a 1/1.
