Dying Frog'd Blightsteel Colossus
Asked by GreatSword 12 years ago
So you've got a Blightsteel Colossus out on the field, and are attacking me with it. (Oh no!)
Then I cast Turn to Frog on it, and block with a Grizzly Bears , killing it. (Tee hee).
Where does the Colossus end up? Would it get shuffled away into its Library? Or, since it has no abilities, end up in the graveyard before the card's printed ability can save it?

Yeah, I figured. Going from the 'field to the graveyard is instantaneous, and there's no time for Blightsteel Colossus to "see" itself retroactively going to the graveyard, so its ability will never trigger.

A replacement effect (usually identifiable by the use of "instead", "with", or "as") has to exist before the event it would replace happens. Because Blightsteel Colossus doesn't have the ability at the moment before he would be put into the graveyard, it can't be applied, and he won't get shuffled up.

If it were a creature with a triggered ability instead, like Kozilek, Butcher of Truth , then it would get shuffled back into your library. That ability triggers in the graveyard, at which point Turn to Frog isn't affecting it anymore.

I think it would be put into the graveyard, because it says "IF blightsteel would be put into a graveyard, etc." So, I believe it triggers when it's on the battlefield, but since it's a frog, I think it's put into it's owner's graveyard. Hope this helped!
