Does the Legend Rule work if the one creature has 2 different car

What happens if you have Archangel Avacyn Flip in play and play Avacyn, Angel of Hope. Does the Legend Rule work or not? Technically it's a different name, me and my friends can't figure it out (some say yes, some say no). I hope you guys can help me.

The legend rule only applies if one player controls two permanents with identical English names. Archangel Avacyn Flip is not the same name as Avacyn, Angel of Hope so you are ok.
Planeswalkers are subject to a different rule called the planeswalker uniqueness rule. Where if one player control more than 1 planeswalker with the same subtype name they must pick one and put all other in their owner's graveyard. (I.e. Jace Beleren and Jace, the Mind Sculptor both have the subtype name of Jace).

I think it's better not to mix the Legend rule and the Planeswalker Uniqueness rule, as they do very different things. Now that Harbynger brought it up, let's get into it, though :)
704.5j. If a player controls two or more planeswalkers that share a planeswalker type, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners' graveyards. This is called the "planeswalker uniqueness rule."
704.5k. If a player controls two or more legendary permanents with the same name, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners' graveyards. This is called the "legend rule."
So yes, as Harbynger said, legendary permanents only care about the card name, not about the card flavor-wise being based on the same character.
As for planeswalkers, the difference is that it cares about the planeswalker type. It's important to realize that this also doesn't care about flavor elements, but simply about game mechanics - so if a new Jace would be released that had the planeswalker type "Jace-as-a-Kid" (which would be a horrible type, but yeah), you could have that and Jace, Architect of Thought on the battlefield at the same time.

@Raging_Squiggle: Well, there are only so many questions... :) and I'm not active anywhere else on the site, which would explain why it would appear that way ;)

I recently had this discussion and it required looking up the rules. The best I can tell is that the name has to be exact, EXCEPT in the case of Planeswalkers. So you can have two Avacyn cards out if their names aren't exact, but you cannot have two Jace's out, even if the name is different.
