Does Reveillark's ability work when copied by Sakashima the Impostor or Lazav, Dimir Mastermind?

Asked by undertheglass85 10 years ago

If Reveillark is copied by Sakashima the Impostor or Lazav, Dimir Mastermind , where the clone abilities specify that they retain their original name, does their copied Reveillark ability still proc when either of them leave the battlefield?

I'm guessing not, since they do not share the name...

This, I guess, really applies to any ETB or LTB effects (especially in the case of Sakashima the Impostor ), as most of them reference specific names.

If a card refers to itself by name in an ability it is treated as reading "the card this ability is on".

Thank goodness. That makes more sense! I was worried as I figured it'd hose a lot of the reasons for playing things like Sakashima the Impostor copying ETB or LTB creatures!

My other friend confirmed your answer to this inquiry in another forum too.

Thanks for the help!

This is nitpicky, but there are no procs in Magic. Procs are, by definition, random, and RNG is a fickle god. We use triggers, which always happen for prescribed events.

Thank you for the clarification, as it will certainly keep things more clear if I'm using the same language as everyone else. I've been using the terms interchangeably for a while!

Proc stands for PRogrammed Random Occurence. Probably the best video game example is crit chance. It's a random occurence rather than a guarantee.
