does pyromancers ascension copy x cost?

i built pyro-ascension, but i need to know if i should put X-cost spells. i know pyro-ascension copies kickers, but does it copy the x damage of a red sun's or fireball. im pretty sure it does but not positive.

also, if pyromancers is online and i play a lightning bolt, but its cancelled, do i still copy the bolt? since i already cast the spell or does it need to resolve to be copied?

Oracle Rulings:

• 10/1/2009: If either of Pyromancer Ascension's abilities triggers, it will go on the stack on top of the spell that caused it to trigger. The ability will resolve first. If it's Pyromancer Ascension's second ability that triggered, the copy it creates will also resolve before the original spell. The copy is created even if the original spell has been countered.
• 10/1/2009: If the original spell was kicked, the copy is kicked too. Other decisions made for the original spell, such as the value of X or the mode, are also copied.

Generally, a copy of a card/spell/permanent has all of the characteristics of the original, including kicker, color, CMC, etc.

Somewhat related side note: you mentioned card:Red Sun's Zenith in your post, and it wouldn't be a good addition in a Pyromancer Ascension deck, because it won't go to the graveyard. It won't help you get counters on your Pyromancer Ascension .

Hate to burst your bubbles, but... If Pyromancer Ascension has 2 counters, then ALL sorceries and Instants instantly get duplicated. So having a card:Red Sun's Zenith (even as a single copy in the deck) is just fine. All you'd need is a way to be able to pay 10 mana for the X cost and you can burn for 20 damage (or 2x 10 damage) to your opponent(s).

The only thing about this is that you really want to be able to use multiple's of cards (Preordain , Divination , Into the Roil , Treasure Hunt ) to be able to search for your cards, whilst building up the counters. But with the vast amount of proliferate available, this shouldn't be too hard a problem to fix these days :) (card:Tezzeret's Gambit and Volt Charge springs to mind)

he meant that with a red sun's it wouldnt put a counter on pyromancer's ascension...
