Does Profound Journey trigger Heroic
Asked by Remy5683 11 years ago
Say I have Phalanx Leader in my graveyard. I cast Profound Journey and decide to target Leader. When Leader returns to the battlefield and Journey resolves, can I then trigger Leader and distribute +1/+1 counters to my creatures?

What he said. As a general rule, abilities that are on permanents can only be activated / will only trigger while the permanent is on the battlefield. When an ability has effect from the graveyard, whether it's a static effect (Haakon, Stromgald Scourge), a triggered ability (Bridge from Below) or an activated one (Eternal Dragon) it will specifically say so.
Same goes for other zones, like the static ability on Misthollow Griffin, the activated ability on Torrent Elemental, or the triggered ability that removes counters from suspend cards such as Rift Bolt, which are active while the card is in the exile zone, and so on.
The one exception I can think of are planeswalker emblems and some other cards that usually live in the Command Zone. Those usually are treated as if they were on the battlefield from this point of view.

No. The creature with the Heroic ability must be on the battlefield for it to trigger.
