Does the Mana Burn rule still exist/is it still the same?

Not since M10 was released.

To clarify, there is no more mana burn. If there is still mana in your pool at end of turn, it simply goes away.

Actually Leardawg, the mana pool empties at the end of each step.

Each player's mana pool empties at the end of each phase and each step. Mana burn has not been implemented as an official rule since the rule revisions of Magic 2010, as Leardawg said.

Now, does it exist? well the simple fact that you are aware of it and that you are asking questions about it means that it must exist. Even if it didn't, simply by asking about it, you'd have created it, and then it would exist XD

For informational purposes, the mana burn rule was that, if at the end of a turn (possibly at the end of each phase, I cant recall), there was mana in a player's mana pool, the player took 1 life loss per mana in the mana pool, and that mana was 'drained' from that mana pool. Like posters before have said, this is no longer in the game. Now, at the end of steps and phases, if there is mana in a player's mana pool, it just is drained; you no longer take 1 point of life damage for it.

they got rid of mana burn when they got rid of responding to combat damage in the dreaded 2010 rule change

thats another change i hated about 2010 rule change

but the mana pool still emptyes at the end of every phase unless a card says other wise

People miss mana burn? Why ever for?

I miss it. These damn upstarts spending mana willy-nilly without any care of mana-burn is terrible. Why, in my day, you casted a spell with your life through Channel , a few Lotuses, the sweat off your brow, and you always used exactly how much you needed. No mana was ever wasted, lest you get hit with the dreadbeast 'Manaburn'.

and we'd had to ramp with 4 Llanowar Elves uphill, both ways!

Maybe the llanowar elf thing is true, but i still do not miss it.

Actually, I miss mana burn. It made you think and consider things a lot more carefully. You had to plan your plays a lot more. It required more skill and patience. You wouldn't have been able to have a Lotus Cobra sitting there making mana that you had no intention of using without some kind of a repercussion. The mana acceleration has gotten out of control and mana burn would have kept it in check a little more.

i could also use cards to give people lots of mana that i could deal with but they could not, its was fun killing people with mana burn

Power SurgeMTG Card: Power Surge I will never have a use for you again... I actually have fond memories of that deck... Add me to the "will miss" list.
