Does a spell cast off of Chancellor of the Spires go into its owner's graveyard?
Asked by aepokh 12 years ago
Chancellor of the Spires doesn't say to do anything special with the spell card, so I'm pretty sure it'll just go into its owner's graveyard after resolution like normal. Right?
My opponent had an Army of the Damned in his graveyard, so I cast Chancellor of the Spires and cast Army of the Damned off the enters-the-battlefield trigger. We weren't sure what to do with the spell card so we just put it back in the graveyard as per normal resolution. Then at the end of my turn I flickered the Chancellor with card:Conjurer's Closet and cast Army of the Damned again.
Since the Chancellor's ability doesn't say to do anything special with the spell card, can it be recast an indefinite number of times by retriggering the Chancellor's ability?
Correct. It goes back into the opponents graveyard as if it was normally cast. Only if the card specifies that it is exiled would you exile it.

Yes, it does go on top now.
Also, a question for Epochalyptik that I just thought of. If I cast an Unexpected Results from an OPPONENTS graveyard, and end up getting a land card, does the Unexpected Results go to my hand?
EDIT: As I previewed this, I reread the text, it says owners hand.

Denial048's answers are correct.
Also, to Denial048, no effect can ever put a card you don't own into your hand, graveyard, or library. If an effect would attempt to do so, it doesn't. Any other non-dependent parts of that effect resolve normally.

Thanks Epoc, I didn't think so, but figured I would ask, seeing as this question had a relation to my query.

I hope you don't mind me hijacking your question aepokh
But if you were to cast an instant with flashback from my graveyard, can i respond by exiling it so you won't be able to cast it?

No, once it is cast, the card is on the stack, so therefore it is impossible to target it for exile with a card like Cremate . Your only option is to use a counter like Syncopate , but either way the card becomes exiled, whether it resolves or is countered.

It depends, actually. If your opponent is using an ability like Chancellor of the Spires , then he or she can only cast that spell as part of the resolution of an effect. You can respond to the spell or ability. If your opponent is somehow given the option to cast the spell outside of the resolution of a spell or ability, then you need to be aware that the first step of the casting process is taking the spell card and placing it onto the stack. You won't be able to respond to someone announcing the beginning of the casting process, so by the time you receive priority again, the spell card will no longer be in the graveyard.

As a follow-up question, how does this affect the order of the cards in the graveyard? Does the chosen instant or sorcery leave the graveyard, then go back in at the top of the graveyard?
