Do creature tokens go to the graveyard?

Asked by gheridarigaaz 13 years ago

Do creature tokens go to the graveyard, or do they just get removed from the game, if they do go to the graveyard do they stay there or get removed from the game?

Creature tokens ARE put into the graveyard as normal creatures are. They enter the graveyard for just long enough to trigger goes-to-the-graveyard abilities, then the game sees noncard objects in the graveyard, freaks out, and deletes them from existence as a state-based action.

TLDR: yes, they go there, but they don't stay there for any length of time.

Yes. Creature tokens can die like normal creatures can. They go to the graveyard and are then removed by state-based checks. They trigger any applicable abilities as they die.

110.5f A token that's phased out, or that's in a zone other than the battlefield, ceases to exist. This is a state-based action; see rule 704. (Note that if a token changes zones, applicable triggered abilities will trigger before the token ceases to exist.)

so wait let me get this straight, cuz im still alittle confused so im just going to say what my idea was...i have a token deck that usually generates a substantial amount of tokens (as any good token deck should) but my nightmare for this deck is usually Ratchet Bomb or Day of Judgment ...so can i therefore use Fresh Meat and turn all of my tokens into more tokens after the first ones died?

Fresh Meat only counts the number of creatures that died under your control this turn; it does not check whether or not those creatures are still in your graveyard. Therefore, you can cast it and it will count tokens.

My friend once had an Eldrazi ramp deck with Awakening Zone and the smaller Eldrazi that included Fresh Meat. It worked well.

@reddead405: Check the post dates before you comment. This thread has been dead for three years. Don't necropost unless you have something constructive and significant to add to the conversation.

@Epochalyptik k, my bad. got a bit too excited, considering it was a three to one argument.

Understandable. Just be more conscious of the dates in the future. The Q&A is especially finicky because threads are organized by date asked, not recent post, so if you ask a followup question in an old thread, people aren't likely to find it.
