Divining Witch, card not in library

Asked by Dementare 12 years ago

What happens when I use the Divining Witch and name a card that isn't in the rest of my library, by discard/exile/ect... do I remove my whole library from the game? or does nothing else happen besides removing the 6 cards and revealing the rest because the named card is never revealed?

You end up losing all the cards from your library which will end the game in a loss for you the next time you are required to draw a card.

If you're not able to completely execute one of the steps in an effect of a spell or ability resolving, you do as much as possible and then move on to the next step (if there are any). In this example, you reveal cards until you run out of cards to reveal, so you have to stop that and move on to the next step. The named card wasn't revealed, so you put nothing into your hand and move on to the next step. All the cards you revealed then get exiled.

Note this only applies to the effect of a spell or ability resolving. You're not allowed to incompletely pay costs or choose incomplete sets of targets when playing a spell or ability. If you can't pay the complete cost or choose a complete set of targets, you're not allowed to play the spell or ability at all.

I was thinking of Shared Fate , after it's out name, or JUST before playing it, naming a card card I don't have and then my opponent NEVER GETS A NEW CARD....... and with card:Nevinyrral's Disk activated JUST BEFORE PLAYING Shared Fate nothing left on the board but land, then JUST AFTER, play Wheel of Fortune and Voila, you are stuck with my empty deck with no cards and I have yours..... :-)

It means you would lose the next turn it is like searching for Mirror-Mad Phantasm when you use his ability and not finding anything.

Shared Fate replaces all draw effects so for the rest of the game (or as long as it is in play) No one draws any cards."Replacing your draws isn't optional. You can't draw cards from your own library, even if all your opponents' libraries are empty." However You still need to contend with the required mana, but then i guess you have access to their lands eventually
