Dark Impostor + Bloodline Keeper
Asked by Human_Rogue_21 12 years ago
This Is A Strange Question But I Looked On The Wizards Of The Coast Website For A Dark Impostor Ruling And It Says That If An Activated Ability Uses The Specific Creatures Name, Change The Name To Dark Impostor ... So If I Exile Bloodline Keeper Flip Can I Tap 1 To Transform Dark Impostor Into The Flip Side Of Bloodline Keeper Flip ? Since I Changed Bloodline Keeper Flip 's Second Ability To Dark Impostor 's Name?

Epochalyptik is right. The following link is a link to the rulings for double-faced cards, and it states that: "If any card or token other than a double-faced card is instructed to transform, nothing happens. It won't be turned face down."

If an activated ability of a card in exile references the card it's printed on by name, treat Dark Impostor 's version of that ability as though it referenced Dark Impostor by name instead. For example, if Marrow Bats (which says "Pay 4 life: Regenerate Marrow Bats ") is exiled with Dark Impostor , Dark Impostor has the ability "Pay 4 life: Regenerate Dark Impostor ."

Yep. Just as further clarification, the ruling you quoted simply means that if Dark Impostor inherits an activated ability from another creature, it will reference itself instead of that creature. For example, Dark Impostor would have the ability "B: Transform Dark Impostor" rather than "B: Transform Bloodline Keeper." However, the transform ability will do nothing when it resolves because a non-DFC cannot transform.

I have a question for you Epochalyptik, while we are on this. Say I was running a B/R deck with my Dark Impostor out, while my opponent's Daybreak Ranger Flip flips. If I exile the Nightfall Predator Flip Flip, does it gain the activated ability of it, or the Ranger?

Since the Nightfall Predator Flip Flip reverts back to being Daybreak Ranger Flip when exiled, your Dark Impostor will only inherit Daybreak Ranger Flip 's activated ability.

Found the ruling to back that up:
711.2a In every zone other than the battlefield, and also on the battlefield with its front face up, a double-faced card has only the characteristics of the front face.

And The Last Thing I Will Ask Is If I Exile Bloodline Keeper Flip With Dark Impostor , Can I Tap Dark Impostor And Get A Vampire Token?

Yes. Since that ability is not dependent upon the source being a DFC, activating that ability will produce a token regardless of whether the source is Bloodline Keeper Flip or Dark Impostor .
Epochalyptik says... Accepted answer #1
No.
1) Only permanents represented by double-faced cards can transform. Since Dark Impostor does not have a second face, it can't be transformed.
2) When a card uses its own name in its text (without also using the word "card"), it is self-referential. For example, Bloodline Keeper Flip 's last ability effectively reads "B: Transform [this permanent] . . ."
