Creative Technique and Time Restrictions
Asked by TehGrief 2 years ago
Do the cards exiled with Creative Technique remain in exile until they are cast, or do they get cast immediately?
Does this bypass spell time restrictions when you demonstrate it on an opponent (allowing them to cast a creature spell on your turn without flash)?

They get cast immediately. If a resolving spell or ability says you can cast something and doesn't specify a window of time ("this turn", "until your next turn" etc.), it means you cast it right now as part of the resolution. The spell doesn't resolve immediately, but you put it on the stack and make all the necessary choices etc. and then after the previous spell/ability is totally finished resolving everyone will get a chance to make responses before that new spell starts to resolve.
The normal reason you're only able to cast certain types of spells at certain times is because the base rules of the game only give you permission to cast them at those times. It's possible to get additional permissions from other effects like the Flash ability, cards like Vedalken Orrery, or cards like Creative Technique. However, if you're given an actual specific restriction then there's no way to get around that. Teferi, Time Raveler will stop Creative Technique cold, because it's trying to get you to cast a spell at a time you wouldn't normally be allowed to cast a Sorcery (during the resolution of another spell).
