cost reduction works on Zur's ability???

Asked by lendrick 12 years ago

if I have an cost reduction card (e.g. Cloud Key or Sunscape Familiar ) and attack with Zur the Enchanter I could put on the battlefield an enchantment with CMC 4 (e.g. Auramancer's Guise )?

I was asking for advice from a friend and he told me that, but I never seen any comment about this (and even suspect he is talking nonsense...)

Is this possible?

No. The CMC is just what is in the corner of the card. Those additions and subtractions from cost affect the total cost when the card is cast, but never any other time, and not the CMC.

No, it doesn't work that way. Those effects reduce the total cost to cast a spell, but Zur the Enchanter doesn't have you cast any spells, he just lets you put things directly onto the battlefield. The converted mana cost of a card is the sum of all the symbols in the upper-right corner (or running down the left side of the "future-shifted" card frame). The only way to change those symbols is to make a card a copy of something else.

All of those abilities make their various types of spell "cost less to play" while Zur simply puts cards until play who satisfy his requirement. You are not actually playing anything with Zur, so no cost reductions would impact his function in any way (Ditto cost increasers, or even cards that make you unable to play certain cards, like Meddling Mage
