Clever Impersonator copies Glen Elendra Archmage

Does Persist still bring Clever Impersonator back into play even if it is no longer Glen Elendra Archmage?

Yes. It will come back and you can even choose a different target to copy this time. It will also gain the -1/-1 even if you copy another creature.

Just to clarify:

The game uses last known information for such triggers - how did the creature exist right before it died. As it existed on the battlefield, the Impersonator was a Glen Elendra Archmage with Persist.

Persist checks if the permanent has any -1/-1 counters on it right before it died. If it does not, you are able to return it to the battlefield with a counter.

When Impersonator reenters the battlefield, it has no memory of its previous existance and since is ETBing, you get to choose what it becomes again. If you choose a Monastery Siege, it will ETB as a copy of that enchantment (and you can even choose khans or dragons!), but will also have a -1/-1 counter from persist.
