Can you respond to the equip portion of Nahiri, the Lithomancer's +2 ability?

Asked by Femme_Fatale 10 years ago

The main reason why I'm asking is is that the token generation and the equipment placement on the token are two separate occurances, but yet they are placed on the same ability paragraph, so unsure if it happens in one continual motion, or if you could respond in between them.

Nahiri, the Lithomancer.

No. No one can respond in any way when an action on the stack is in the middle of resolving, even if it does multiple things. For instance, no one can activate Sensei's Divining Top between Ponder's "look at top 3 and maybe shuffle" bit and the "draw a card" bit.

Please link all cards in question: Nahiri, the Lithomancer

You can respond to the abilities of a planeswalker just like you can respond to a regular activated ability, or a spell on the stack. That means, you will get to activate abilities of your own or cast spells in response to the activation of a planeswalker's ability as soon as you get priority.

That is, however, before the ability itself actually resolves. Once it does, it has to be completed in order for anyone to receive priority, meaning the token enters the battlefield and the equipment is attached to it before anyone receives priority.
