Can you Redirect a spell to a creature you can't target if that spells controller can target it?

Say my opponent has Asceticism out and he then tries to Doom Blade one of my creatures, can I Redirect the Doom Blade to one of his creatures since he can target them?

Yes, you're allowed to do that. When you change the targets of a spell or ability, you can only change them to targets that would still be legal for that spell or ability. Since he's still allowed to target his own creatures with spells and abilities under Asceticism , Doom Blade can legally target any of the nonblack ones. Because your Redirect isn't trying to target any of his creatures in this situation, Asceticism doesn't affect how it functions.

Redirect works because you don't target anything but the spell on the stack, and it doesn't have hexproof or shroud. You get to choose once Redirect resolves, but choosing is not the same as targeting.

It is also important to note that Redirect doesn't change the controller, which is the most important part of this example.

For example, Redirect works. Commandeer does not, because you would become the controller which means you can't target your opponent's creatures.
