Can Nim Deathmantle bring back Progenitus?
Asked by spectre501st 12 years ago
I was playtesting my deck Wrath of Alara., which I had just added Nim Deathmantle to. And I cast a card:Life's Finale. Progenitus went to the graveyard and I prepared to use the mantle but I froze. Can I bring him back with the mantle, seeing as he has pro-everything? It sounds self-explanatory but I want to make absolutely sure.

Though note that though the deathmantle will return proggy, it's quite a feat to even get proggy into the graveyard. (and I am curious as to how you got him there)

Rhadamanthus and GoblinsInc are forgetting that Progenitus has a replacement effect, so it never hits the graveyard and cannot be returned by Nim Deathmantle

My post clearly showed that I was aware of his replacement effect. Hence why I asked how he managed to get proggy into the graveyard in the first place. However it isn't impossible, hence the fact that the mantle will still return proggy if he hits the yard somehow

@ Goblinslnc, no it is impossible for Progenitus to hit the graveyard as the replacement effect states "if he would" and "from ANYWHERE" that anywhere clause is so big it's technically bigger than his own ability of protection from everything (as protection of any kind only covers four topics). If WotC decided to make up a new game zone with it's sole purpose was to put things directly into the graveyard, without question, no matter what, every single time, even on holidays and weekends, even with the help of almighty Richard Garfield PhD. Progenitus still wouldn't have any clue what the graveyard looks like anymore than men know what the women's bathroom looks like. I kid but you get the idea it cannot happen, proggy no gonna go to grave

Humility + Wrath of God = Progenitus in the graveyard.

Protection from everything means it can't be Damaged, Enchanted/Equipped, Blocked, or Targeted by anything. If during the resolution of a spell or ability you're unable to follow one of the instructions, you just do as much as you can. Nim Deathmantle 's ability will return Progenitus to the battlefield, but it won't be attached to him.
