Can multiple same tap effects stack?

Asked by ResidentEmo 11 years ago

For example, Karametra's Favor equipped onto a [Sylvan Caryatid]]. I'm assuming if there were different effects, tapping would trigger both. But in this case, would tapping allow you to add two mana to your pool? Or does the same effect just overwrite itself?

I see a made a typo there. Oops. No clue if it's possible to edit though, so I'll fix it here. Sylvan Caryatid .

Also, that brings up yet another question, if one were to use a Springleaf Drum effect on top of that, would one get yet another mana for tapping the same creature?

You can't tap the same creature for two different costs. It's like trying to pay for two different vending machines with the same dollar bill.

If you want to use Sylvan Caryatid for mana, and you've got a Springleaf Drum and it's enchanted by Karametra's Favor , basically you've got three ways to make one mana of any color.

An ability written as "Cost : Effect" is an activated ability. You activate it by announcing it and paying its cost. Like erabel said, you can't pay just one cost to activate two different abilities (that would be like using one Forest to simultaneously play 2 Elvish Mystic s).

A Sylvan Caryatid enchanted with Karametra's Favor has 2 instances of the ability "Tap: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool". You can only tap the Caryatid to activate one of those abilities at a time. The answer is the same if you introduce Springleaf Drum , since part of the cost of activating its ability is tapping an untapped creature.
