Can MImic Vat hate on Melria Pod, etc?

Asked by Metroid_Hybrid 9 years ago

The way I see it, if my opponent were to attempt a infinite combo with Kitchen Finks /Murderous Redcap while I control a Mimic Vat , I can essential snatch up the little bastard with my Mimic Vat before it's own persist trigger can resolve & make it back onto the field; correct?

It depends on whose turn it is.

When multiple triggered abilities would be put onto the stack at the same time, the active player (the player whose turn it is) puts all of his onto the stack first, then the non-active player puts all of his onto the stack on top of those. In a game with more than 2 players, the process starts with the active player and goes around the table in turn order.

So if it's currently the Pod player's turn then his persist trigger will go onto the stack, your Vat trigger will go onto the stack on top of it, and your Vat trigger will end up resolving first. If it's currently your turn then the opposite will happen.

@Rhadamanthus: So what you're saying is.. (1vs1) If I wanted to steal an opponent's creature w/ persist (or dying, etc..), then I would need to make sure it dies on their turn.. Right?

This is good because I recently put a Mimic Vat into my Devoted to Obliteration.. deck, and I was taking another look at the wording, and the rulings on Gatherer, and it made me kind of excited to have another source of mainboard Pod hate..

Yes, that's how it works.
