Can Loxodon Smiter be countered with a Counterflux

Asked by sz 12 years ago

My friend and I were discussing whether or not Loxodon Smiter can be countered by Counterflux . The argument is that its the same kind of thing as hexproof, but if Counterflux is overloaded then it kills everything on the stack including the smiter

Loxodon Smiter can't be countered by counterspells, period.

Hexproof/Shroud are only in effect while the card is on the battlefield. When you counter a spell, it has to be on the stack. hexproof, shroud, protection, indestructible, etc are only in effect while the card is on the battlefield

So this includes when it is overloaded because it is not specifically targeted

I believe that had already been said.

Does Counterflux counter a spell in un-Overloaded?

Yes.

Does Counterflux counter all spells if Overloaded?

Yes.

Does Counterflux still counter spells, either way?

Yes.

Can Loxodon Smiter be countered?

No.

If it said "Loxodon smiter can't be targeted while it is on the stack" The this would be the case. But it says cant be countered so what is said above holds./

Loxodon Smiter can still be targeted by a counter spell in an attempt to counter it. Except when the counter tries to resolve nothing will happen since the Smiter cannot be countered.

My Best Answer:

Loxodon Smiter is to Counter as Indestructobility is to Wrath of God

Hope this makes as much sense to you as it does in me head...

"Can't be countered" isn't the same thing as hexproof, because the text on the card doesn't say anything like what hexproof says. A card does exactly what it says in the text box, and Loxodon Smiter says it can't be countered. It doesn't matter that an Overloaded spell doesn't target. The Overloaded text for Countersquall says "counter each spell you don't control", and Loxodon Smiter can't be countered (so it isn't).
