Can I stack Atraxa's Proliferate?

Asked by QuilavaUchiha 6 years ago

So I was looking at my Atraxa, Praetors' Voice commander deck and wondered about some interactions she might have with Venser, the Sojourner. At the beginning of my end step, can I use Venser's first ability in response to Atraxa's Proliferate being put on the stack to exile Atraxa, then return her to the battlefield to trigger her proliferate again in a sort of weird flicker combo?

No.

First, unless you have some other method of activating planeswalker abilities at instant-speed (currently only available via the emblem from Teferi, Temporal Archmage) you can't activate Venser, the Sojourner's +2 ability after the start of your end step. Planeswalker abilities can only be activated at sorcery-speed.

Second, any abilities that trigger "at the beginning of the end step" (or "next end step") all trigger at the same time, including Atraxa, Praetors' Voice's proliferate. Even if you were able to activate Venser's +2 at this point to exile and return Atraxa, it wouldn't work the way you want for two reasons:

  1. Venser's +2 says "the beginning of the next end step." Your end step has already begun, so Atraxa wouldn't come back until the next player's end step.

  2. Even if Atraxa came back during this same end step instead of the next one, the end step has already begun, so her proliferate ability won't trigger again.

Assuming you instead used Ghostly Flicker to bounce and return her after her proliferate trigger goes on the stack, it still won't work for reason #2 above.
