Brave the Sands vs First Strike
Asked by Argy 9 years ago
OK so a 2/2 Cat Token spawned with Brave the Sands blocks Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, who has first strike and is 7/5, and a 7/5 Minotaur Skullcleaver.
Can any damage get through?
Thanks for any help.
Just to add, Alesha, Who Smiles at Death will kill the 2/2, but because both 7/5s were blocked, their attack is still directed at the blocking creature--the 2/2.
This is kind of like sacrificing a blocking creature for an effect, let's say, Bloodthrone Vampire for example. A creature without trample that's been blocked, is blocked. You can get rid of the blocking creature by say, saccing it, but the attacking creature is still directed towards the once blocking creature. Same with double strike, only trample would get through.
509.1h An attacking creature with one or more creatures declared as blockers for it becomes a blocked creature; one with no creatures declared as blockers for it becomes an unblocked creature. This remains unchanged until the creature is removed from combat, an effect says that it becomes blocked or unblocked, or the combat phase ends, whichever comes first. A creature remains blocked even if all the creatures blocking it are removed from combat.

Unless there's trample involved, because you've declared that you're blocking both creatures (you now can because of Brave the Sands), no damage will get through.
