Bolt Bend vs. Harrow

Asked by Reidzee757 3 years ago

My buddy played Harrow and I cast Bolt Bend and changed the target from him to me.

My question is; who would sacrifice the land? Since sacrificing is an additional land is part of the cost to cast Harrow, he would sac the land then I would search for two basic lands to put onto the battlefield.

Is this accurate, or would I end up having to sac the lands to gain the search two basics? Or was Harrow even a valid target for Bolt Bend since it doesn't say "target player searches his/her library..."?

Harrow does not target, so you cannot change the target of the spell with Bolt Bend. Any spell that targets will use the word "target" in the rules text (or be an aura or Mutate spell, which always targets if it is cast as a spell).

Thank you for the answer. At the time of posting the question, I noticed Harrow didn't say "target" and figured at that point the whole thing was invalid.

The original caster of the spell you're targeting would still need to pay the additional costs to cast the spell (and would have to do so before you can respond to that spell being on the stack), if the spell you were targeting with Bolt Bend did in fact have a target which could be changed.
