Animate Dead & ETB Trigger

Asked by Spirits 7 years ago

I cast Animate Dead ETB returning Karmic Guide

Karmic Guide ETB goes on the stack.

Animate Dead can't attach to Karmic Guide so Animate Dead LTB goes on the stack.

Question: Can I choose the order, IE: Setup the stack as such Animate Dead LTB first, then Karmic Guide ETB second (so Karmic Guide ETB resolves before the Animate Dead LTB).

It feels like the Animate Dead LTB goes on the stack second (resolves before Karmic Guide ETB). The reason being, when the Karmic Guide ETB's, the retuning creature might be able to ETB or activate an ability, for example return Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker who can copy the Karmic Guide before she has to be sacrificed, but I don't think this works?

I'm hoping the State-based check (Due to protection from black) is done after the Animate Dead resolves, but before the Karmic Guide ETB goes on the stack, thus putting the Animate Dead on the stack first. The stack allows the Karmic Guide ETB to resolve before it's sacrificed in this case.

So far as I understand this situation, both would go onto the stack simultaneously.

Karmic Guide enters the battlefield with Animate Dead attached to it. SBAs are checked, and Animate Dead is removed. Then triggers are put onto the stack and active player receives priority. Both Animate Dead's "LTB" and Karmic Guide's ETB have triggered, and go on the stack simultaneously, meaning the player that controls both effects may choose what order to stack them in.

Now then, not only does this allow you to make Karmic Guide's ability resolve first, returning something like Kiki-Jiki before Karmic Guide is sacrificed. It also allows you to do the opposite, sacrifice Karmic Guide, then return a creature from your graveyard to the battlefield, at your option.
