Amina

A fellow mtg player made an argument today that Aminatou, the Fateshifter along with Oath of Teferi and Spark Double does not allow you to infinitely loop Aminatou, the Fateshifter activations. He claims a judge told him this, can a judge confirm or deny this claim so we can put this argument to rest?

Gidgetimer says... #1

You can infinitely activate the +1 and -1 or just the -1 though you need a fourth card to generate any value. After the cards re-enter from the -1 they are new game objects whose loyalty abilities have not been activated.

Something to consider for future questions: It doesn't help much to ask for a judge to answer a question, since anyone can type up a post and claim to be a judge with no way for you to know for sure whether they're telling the truth. All that really matters is whether a person's answer is backed up by the rules of the game.

Gidgetimer is correct, and here's the relevant rule: 400.7. An object that moves from one zone to another becomes a new object with no memory of, or relation to, its previous existence.

There are some exceptions, also listed specifically in section 400.7 of the rulebook, but they're only there to make certain things in the game work properly. None of the official exceptions apply in this situation.
