Alliance of Arms + Archangel of Thune + Suture Priest

Asked by daniferrito 11 years ago

How would the combo work, if it works at all?

Let me explain: I have a Suture Priest out, and an Archangel of Thune . I proceed to cast Alliance of Arms , paying 5 extra mana for it, and noone pays anything.

Then, everyone will get 5 tokens. As my opponents get tokens, my Suture Priest would make them loose 5 life each. I would get the tokens as well, triggering the healing effect from Suture Priest 5 times. As i just healed 5 times, Archangel of Thune would trigger 5 times as well, and my tokens (as well as any other creatures i have out) would recieve 5 +1/+1 counters each, turning them into 6/6.

It gets crazier with more things on the table. Say i have 2 Suture Priest and 2 Archangel of Thune . paying for 5 mana again, the priests would trigger 10 times total, triggering the archangels 10 times each, putting a total of 20 counters on everything i own, so now i have 2 23/24 flying lifelink angels, 2 21/21 priests, and 5 21/21 soldiers tokens.

On a similar topic, would Archangel of Thune or Ajani's Pridemate get a counter as they enter if a Suture Priest or similar is alredy in?

All the creatures from Alliance of Arms enter the battlefield at once, and all see each other entering, and trigger all the various things. As the active player and the one controlling all the triggers, you can stack them in whatever order you like. In a 4-player game where you paid 5 and nobody else paid anything, you'll have 20 individual triggers of Suture Priest to stack, 5 instances of a creature entering under your control, and 15 of a creature entering under an opponent's control. Each time one of your life gain triggers resolves, it will trigger an Archangel of Thune trigger on top of the stack. So yes, by the end you will essentially gain 5 life, each of them will lose 5 life, and you will put 5 +1/+1 counters on all creatures you control.

On your similar topic, yes they will get to trigger. Since Suture Priest is a triggered ability that triggers on the creature entering the battlefield, by the time that trigger resolves, the other creature will already be on the battlefield, so it will have its abilities in force, and they will trigger on the lifegain. However, for that same reason, you won't get a Suture Priest trigger from itself when you first play it, because it has already entered the battlefield by the time its abilities work, so doesn't see itself enter the battlefield.

Thanks!

Suture Priest does specify that another creature has to enter the battlefield anyway, so there is not any confusion there.I believe that is a quite good combo, and not too unrealistic. With most of the creatures generating life, generating tokens, and buffing them, it can get out of hand quite fast. But it lacks horribly from early-game defense.

Am i right to assume that Rhox Faithmender doubles the life-gain, as it is alredy in-place for when the trigger resolves? (I know it will only cause Archangel of Thune to trigger once)

Rhox Faithmender is a replacement effect that replaces a life-gain event with an event gaining twice the life. So yes, it doubles the life gain, and will not trigger Archangel any additional times.
