2x Stuffy Doll and 2x Arcbond... the damage ends right?

Asked by ginko2580 8 years ago

1x Stuffy gets a Arcbond targeting it FOR THE TURN and then I react and cast Arc onto a second Stuffy.... seeing that it says "Whenever" Stuffy is Dealt Damage. it must be dealt then it deals

If I tap one and deal damage to itself, it would deal THAT DAMAGE, and it "Could trigger" the casted Arcbond and the "Other Creatures".... stop, (say opponent reacted with Path to Exile as I tapped the Stuffy, is that damage "Dealt" and opponent taking 1 life loss, I don't think is does, does it?)

The damage has to be dealt to Stuffy to deal damage to "Target player" and therefore b4 the Arcbond could trigger (dealt is past tense, and has to happen 1st)...

now the Arcbond would be stated as "true", and then that damage would be dealt from 2nd to the original tapped Stuffy... stop.... Deal that Damage to 2nd Stuffy/Player, and now more damage to the tapped 1st Stuffy/Player............. and Deal and Re-Deal.... etc.

where does the damage end... or is this a win if opponent can't break the chain? not sure if I am just confusing myself here?

If I understand all that correctly then we have two stuffy dolls with resolved arc bonds targeting them. When you tap the stuffy and put the ability on the stack you opponent reacts with path to exile on the tapped stuffy. The path to exile will resolve first exiling the stuffy doll. The ability "deal 1 damage to itself" is next. Now I think that this ability is countered as it has no target left but it doesn't really matter. The stuffy doll is not in play anymore and the trigger to apply the damage to the opponent never happens.

Tl:Dr no opponent takes no damage.

As I don't understand you I'll agree with Tortlewar in what happens if something kills a stuffy doll, and address another situation I think you might be asking about:

You have two Stuffy Dolls both of which had Arcbond cast on them and resolved. Both dolls have the same opponent chosen. You tap one doll to have it deal damage to itself and nobody responds. It resolves, triggering both arcbond's ability and it's own ability, which you put on the stack in that order (because it's better this way). It's ability resolves first dealing 1 damage to your opponent. Then arcbond's ability resolves dealing 1 damage to the other doll, 1 damage to you, and 1 damage to your opponent. This triggers the process to repeat with the other stuffy doll. This process will repeat until either a stuffy doll is removed or the game ends. Note that each side of the loop results in restarting the loop on the other side (thus endlessly repeating), 2 damage to your opponent, and 1 damage to you.

TL;DR Your opponent loses unless they have more than double your life, in which case you lose.

In multiplayer, with the dolls set on different opponents, each full loop (both sides) is restarting the loop, 3 damage to each chosen player, 2 damage to each other player. The math is straight forward enough to skip to each player being eliminated, and it ends once you either win or are eliminated.
