How to put backgrounds in decks.

TappedOut forum

Hello. Upon seeing some featured decks, specifically from ahobrien , I saw the cool use of backgrounds and other formatting things that I would like to incorporate into my own decks that I hope to bring to the site. Thank you for any help.

Once you learn how to do it I would suggest that you use backgrounds that aren't too busy.

Sometimes you can hardly read the text.

Check out my profile for the type of background I think works well.

The easiset way to do this is to use a HTML image element and push it to the back of the page (Z order = -1), which is what a lot of people end up doing. This works ok, though I'm not sure if you need to be an upgraded member (to do any of it technically).

There are a few things to remember though:

  • Copywrite/fair use for images, all that jazz (I'm sure most people have heard this before)

  • Make sure that the site you're linking to can manage the bandwidth. Inline linking means requests to other websites, which is their bandwidth. Yes, this is 2019 and most internect connections have no issues, but be mindful.

  • remember that there are a bunch of mobile users (and not just via the app) so whatever you implement shouldn't negatively impact people's viewing.

  • as Argy said, make sure that the background still leaves the decklist readable. There are so many lists on TappedOut that are crammed so full of CSS that they become unreadable (and often times inhibit the built in analysis features that T/O has).

I'm flattered to be mentioned. I definitely try to cram as many things into the pages as I can - usually to the point where I laugh at how absurd it looks. I also like the thought of annoying others by having deck-themed music autoplay. Your mileage may vary on that- I just like to harken back to the myspace days because it's nostalgic to me personally

Kiki's Awakening and GTAViceCity both used a css code base made by others. If you want to dm me I can send you a copy of a .css sheet for you to modify on google drive->edity

You need to be an upgraded user first though

Hey hey! I gave you permissions to add CSS and HTML to your decks. Sadly I'm not on the site as much as I used to be, so I won't be able to walk you through it like I have for a couple other people, but king-saproling has been taking over lately! They made an article that can help you through it all, and feel free to post on their wall for help! They tend to do pretty over-the-top designs, so if you want something more tame and styled like mine, I can guide you through it!

Adding on to my last comment, definitely listen to what Argy said. You don't want people to click off your deck just because they can't read it! Sometimes you need to change the colour of your text as well as adding a background. I also have a section of code (courtesy of multimedia, they taught me everything I know) that makes your deck styles not load on mobile. It really helps out with loading times and display! Try to look at your page as if it's your first time, every time to improve readability. The first impression is most important!

Since I am not upgraded yet, what would be the best way to contact you so I can obtain a copy of the .css sheet? Thank you for all of the info you provided.

Also, adding auto-pay music or videos is a really good way to having all of your CSS stripped from your decks. Please do NOT do this.

I was curious if this was still possible. I've looked online for places to kickstart the job, but to no avail. Is this still something that I could do? I'm interested, but don't know where to start. Thanks.
