anyone have any experience using this?? I've been trying to play test my decks on here so I can match them up against real life opponents and it seems like either I get all land or no land. I never have a good mix of cards. If I were just getting flooded with land a lot i'd say I have too much land, or vise versa if I was always getting none I'd say I have too little, but it's always one extreme or the other. Anyone else experience this while using this program, or am I just lucky lol.

I suggest using cockatrice instead. I find it has more players, more variety of decks to test against, and a more polite range of users. Not sure about the land flooding though

atreyujames, I see that comment in pretty much any "online" thread, but cockatrice has been down for a while, how do you even begin now that the main site is down?

Honestly I would love to try it but I just don't have the ability to google all the programs here since almost anything magic/gameing in general is blocked.

I've heard of cockatrice, and I've also heard you gotta jump through hoops in order to get it up and running since their server went down. Is it more user friendly?? magic workshop isn't the most user friendly thing I've ever used but once you get used to the hot keys you can do things pretty smoothly. I don't really have a problem finding games or playing different decks, I never know what i'm about to play so it's like getting a new opponent at FNM. If it's not difficult to set up and it's more user friendly than magic workshop then I'd be interested. What exactly do you need in order to get it running???

Generally you should just hit the restart button till you get a hand with the minimum land needed. As all random card generators aren't very reliable as your average real life card shuffling isn't actually all that random. Everything is in a set place as designated by your shuffling technique, random in this sense is named to something that we can't determine all the values and/or the locations. Same can be said with chances in card-drawing.

Another way to test hands or decks is to just take another deck and use the cards as "proxies" when you don't have all the cards yet. For example you could identify a play-set of Elvish Mystic s as a play-set of Breeding Pool s or of Tarmogoyf s, this way you can effectively play-test any deck in real life without having to buy the cards before hand or having your proper draw values disrupted by random number generators.

Also, I use OCTGN. It hasn't been hit by WotC just yet that I know of so it should be relatively easy to work.

@abenz419 you don't have to jump through hoops to get cockatrice. I had to jump through more hoops getting MTGO than cockatrice. The only pain with cockatrice is that you have to download any new sets when they are released, but you get the oracle program with cockatrice when it's downloaded.

yeah I've play tested against decks like that where I've recreated something to play against, but it's easier to put yourself in real life situations when your playing another person. I mean I try as hard as I can to play them like I would normally if I didn't know what was in the other persons hand but it still can be difficult

@HarbingerJK when I originally found out about Magic Workshop, I was also told about cockatrice too. But I was told that it was down and you had to do a bunch of stuff in order to download everything you need because of it

LackeyCCG is another good program. I also prefer the interface to that of cockatrice. I learned Cockatrice first and it was a pain but Lackey feels a lot smoother to navigate. The only trouble you will have is trying to find plugins for the CCG's but once you have them it isn't difficult. The second link you copy and paste into the plugin update bar. It is the MTG Plugin.

I did but I'm definitely missing something. It seems like it's a program for more computer savvy people
