First Alpha Black Lotus to ever get pulled on film

Apparently, anyway. On YT, openboosters does videos opening different types of boosters. He's opened a few Beta starter packs, and an Alpha starter pack once (apparently it was a reseal). He opened another Alpha starter deck/pack and pulled a Black Lotus and a Tropical Island .
Here's a link to the original video.
He just got the cards graded, both got a 9.5! Insane value, here's the video.
I've seen those comments. Who in their right mind would repack a mint condition Alpha Lotus and sell it at the price of the starter pack? It makes absolutely no sense, especially now that it's been confirmed to be a real card, not a fake. Plus, as some people pointed out, Alpha print runs were different than Beta runs; heck, Alpha had cards printed with the wrong casting cost, wrong card type, etc.

And I highly doubt that openboosters would pull a mint alpha lotus and a mint trop separately and instead of posting videos of both, repack the cards to create another "fake" video. The lotus was the big deal there, the trop hardly matters, so there's no point in putting them together in the same video

yeah, i'll retract my comment. after looking around the interwebz it seems like all the confident "this is fake" comments (kinda like mine above) aren't necessarily verified. don't use the internet to do your peer-reviewed research i guess.
i suppose i'll just go back to not really caring.

I think it's awesome, it's like winning the lottery. Though I wonder if the guy's put more money into MTG than he just made back with that Lotus; I know that I've put so much money into MTG that no matter what crazy foil I pull out of a random pack would probably not leave me at a net profit.
Maybe a foil JTMS lol

his reaction seemed a bit light for just opening a 30 thousand dollar card

He almost crushed the lotus when he first saw it lol, and his voice went up in pitch

I'll never understand the joy of seeing people open a lotus lol...the only cards i tend to care about are your play reasons. I wish i understood why people just have cards locked away never to be played again :(

I'd sell that lotus so fast. Buy the rest of the Power Nine I need and hit up a tourney.

I'm willing to believe it's legit. There are some notable issues with the 2 major "fake" arguments:
- The point about Black Lotus and Tropical Island being next to each other is based on Beta collation patterns. Alpha was a completely different print run from Beta, was packaged differently (with its own mistakes, I'm sure), and its rare sheet didn't have the same configuration (Volcanic Island was missing from the set). I know that's not proof against the point, but the argument can't be cleanly translated from one print run to the other. Also, some of his reaction makes me think he knew some things about Beta collation and was expecting something completely different after showing Tropical Island .
- The point about any perceived "dings" or "shuffle wear" in a pack fresh card can be invalidated by simply paying attention to the next several booster packs you open. It happens. The cards are cut, collated, and packaged by high-speed machines that don't care if the card is a Highland Game or a foil Flooded Strand .

I'm willing to believe it's legit just because the second he sees it he almost crumples it in surprise or fright or elation, and his hands won't stop shaking after he sees it.

this video has been around for a while. others have already confirmed this was a repack because due to the nature of alpha print runs, it wouldn't be possible for a black lotus to be in the same pack as a tropical island.
