hello everyone,
i am new to these forums and a forever noob to mtg.
here's a little bit about me.-i am a very casual player (play about 1 to 3 times a year and only with 2 to 3 very close friends)-i'm 34yrs old, started playing in 1995-i mostly have the same 5 decks since 1998-my decks are a disaster. absolutely horrible. but i have fun with them even though they are not competitive at all.-i know next to nothing about cards after Iceage but i'm willing to learn any rules associated with any deck that i use-i know NOTHING about what you all call Formats... I guess i play Standard??? we know about some banned and restricted cards such as the Sol Ring and such. we basically play by the official rules that were used in 1996.
here is my question. can you suggest a powerful deck that is cheap and fun.
i have not put $$$ into mtg for many many years and since i play so little you understand how i'm leary to put a lot of cash into this.
i'd like to chuck the minimal amount of money at a few new decks just to spice things up after almost 20 yrs of using the same decks.
here are some deck ideas that i've found using my meager searching skills. can you suggest others?
$14.16LiveWired Infectionhttp://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/livewired-infection/
$16.24Zombie Hunthttp://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/zombie-hunt-9/
$48.77R/B Tainted Scamp (Infect)http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/rb-tainted-scamp-infect/
thanks in advance for you assistance,Brall
i'll fix my first post by linking what i meant to say.
$14.16 LiveWired Infection
$16.24 Zombie Hunt
$48.77 R/B Tainted Scamp (Infect)

My own Bargain-Bin Affinity deck is a very strong deck made of nothing but commons and uncommons that should be easy to find. The list I have on the site is one optimized for a longer game with multiple opponents, but there's a faster (and even cheaper) version for 1-on-1 games that replaces Tree of Tales and card:Gaea's Blessing with Vault of Whispers and Cranial Plating .

thank you rhadamanthus for suggesting Bargain-Bin Affinity.
this deck seems to be cheap, easy to play for a casual person like me & also it seems to me that could be very powerfull.

still learning how to work this site. not quite certain how to 'playtest' yet.
which two decks would deliver the most damage, faster, the most often?

I recently built a couple budget decks for my cousin and they are both very effective and easy to play.
this will only hurt for a second. the link for the other is in the description.

also decks built around Burning Vengence tend to do well and can easily be played with budget builds mine isn't %100 budget because of Chandra's Pheonix but you can easily add more burn and could even make it creatureless if you want to. mine is deck:back-with-a-vengence
to the better deck Zombie infestation of standard is more consistant due to the cycling of cards with card:Jace's Archivist and the ability to reshuffle your library with Elixir of Immortality .

thx SwiftDeath. Burning Vengence is cheap and it seems to have some kick to it.
does anyone else have any suggestions?
thx much everyone!

Before I go suggesting things, the real question is what sort of deck do you enjoy playing? Most of the suggested decks here seem to be RDW and Zombies. What are your old decks mostly made of? Perhaps you could update one of them with new cards?

hello burnsbabe. thx for posting.
i decided that updating my old decks would not only be a nightmare but also an exercise in futility.
as for what i 'like' to play... for the sake of this thread, it doesn't matter what i like, i'm looking for suggestions from you people that know MUCH more than i about this game :)

on average, which deck do you think would win more often in standard tournaments?
14.16 LiveWired Infection
or
17.58 Burn it to the Ground
both seem to bery very powerful and easy on the wallet.

i'm thinking Burn it to the Ground but only by a slight difference...
i think it may win 11 out of 20 against LiveWired Infection.
thoughts?

very slow forum here. not a whole lot in the way of information getting passed around.
i'll pass some info and give an update on the results of my research. let me know if you have any other suggestions. you all know far more than i do about mtg and about what decks/cards exist today.
below are the decks i'm most interested in:
$41.92 Bargain-Bin Affinity
$41.10 C-C-C-COMBO
$17.58 Burn it to the Ground
$14.16 LiveWired Infection
$13.36 deck:youre-taped-out just to update my crappy tap to kill deck that i made in 1996
$6.97 Zombie infestation of standard
as of now i've spent $80. first cash spent in mtg for many many years. i'm excited to have a few new decks. after shopping around i was able to get all the above decks except the C-C-C-COMBO deck which i may get later this year. so far i've only had a chance to play the affinity deck and WOW that deck was awesome!!
below are some decks that i found interesting but they didn't make the cut: $79.18 New Phyrexian Sax - $66.63 Steeled Architecture - $48.77 R/B Tainted Scamp (Infect) - $41.91 Goblins Besieged - $40.41 Knowledge Ascension - $39.61 Draw/Discard Deck - $31.47 Budget Kuldotha Red

sorry for the spacing issue in my previous post.
this message was typed elsewhere and copied/pasted to this site. i didn't notice that there was a spacing issue created when pasting.
