Colors you play with the colors of your sleeves

do you care or put alot of effort into putting your deck with the color of your sleeves that looks the best? if so, whats your preference?
I like ambiguous sleeves and wish there were more in circulation to choose from (especially online) that weren't just a single color. I like to walk into a game session ready with a set of sleeved-up decks to pick from - but I prefer to work with a design element on a sleeve than a color to go with a deck's theme if I can.

Black sleeves are very good, but I also like the clear sleeves so you can see the back of the card. However, for my new Melek, Izzet Paragon EDH deck I bought, I got red sleeves for it and a blue box to carry it in, so sometimes presentation does matter to me.

Black sleeves (unless you have custom ones) for your deck, and white sleeves for tokens you might need.

my melek deck has purple dragon shields, purchased specifically because blue+red=purple.

Sometimes presentation does matter ( I have a Mirran deck sleeved in Mirran symbol sleeves and box lol) but more often than not I don't really care. for Pre-releases I have standard purple Ultra pros (they actually aren't bad for the times I use them) other than that I sleeve everything in Metallic Purple Dragon Shields (Purple is the best colour in the universe) and use the magnetic deck boxes I have (sometimes standard basic ones if I need more) Tokens usually aren't sleeved, some of the more rare to get ones (emblems/"mythic") tokens get sleeved in gold. My EDH is in Silver Dragon Shields. The only exception I have is my old Mirrodin block deck is sleeved in clear Dragon Shields with 60 copies of Savage Beating placed in the back :D

Im very cheap when it comes to my decks I use the penny sleeves for 75% of my decks, Although my commander deck I put a little more love (money) into it which are blue sleeves for a Oona EDH deck with a Oona sleeve for her. I also keep a pack of 40 black sleeves for drafts and other events.

For my 2 main decks, I use the sleeves for my rakdos deck are just your normal pure black sleeves. For my Boros deck I use regular red sleeves. Even have a red deck box for the rakdos deck and a white deck box for the boros. Most people I play with now know which deck I'm gonna use before I even take it out of the box.

I have 100 custom sleeves I use for my commander deck. Until I get double-faced cards, I won't sleeve my regular decks.

I have a Gruul deck that looks pretty sweet in either bright orange or electric blue sleeves, but my Selesnya decks just have basic Selesnya sleeves with Vitu-Ghazi Guildmage on them. I don't even use that card, but it fits the theme, so whatevs.

They have guild oriented deck sleeves you can buy. You could put a Rakdos deck in Azorius sleeves and trick your opponent! Seriously though, the only thing that matters about sleeves is that they all have to be the same, otherwise it will appear as if you marked certain cards in your deck. I use Ultrapro sleeves and I have two types. They look completely identical on the back, but on the face, my sideboard uses the sleeves with the logo in the corner and my mainboard uses the sleeves with the logo towards the middle.

i put my sideboard in the same sleeves as my main deck, that way i can just swap cards

I just go all black, they're like $2.79 online for black ultra pro packs.

I actually go to huge lengths to get matching sleeves for the theme of the deck. I use, for instance, Fantasy Flight sleeves and other sleeves made for other games, and stick cards in 'em.

i also dont like using the same color sleeves as a color that im playing in that deck

I prefer black sleeves and clear sleeves. I've been buying mainly Dragon Shields, so they're heavy-duty and look great.
Oddly, I don't mind purple sleeves with Magic cards either. Generally it marks the cards as yours, and the purple isn't as distracting as Red or Yellow or Orange sleeves. Not to mention, it's Magic's 6th. color.

I use dragon shields and ultra-pro. Dragon shields for my mostly static decks and ultra-pro for standard and other decks that aren'[t stabilized. The color's are usually matched. i.e. green ultrapro from my bant aura's deck, though in some cases the specialness of the deck gets a special color, gold dragon shields for my modern deck that's a junk melira pod deck.

I care more about keeping the cards in near mint condition. So I use kmc perfect fits with kmc mat sleeves normally red. They just show less wear. I have brown and blue sleeves for test or proxy decks

I saw the people I usually play against using mono-colored sleeves so I went with fancy Legion sleeves that have cute art.
Then I met more people who use the same sleeves I do - and no offense intended to anyone - but if someone else on the table is using the same sleeves as me, I would just as soon switch decks - I usually bring 2 - 4 decks to EDH night. So far I have 8 sets of sleeves and will probably get up to about 14 over the summer / early fall (probably 4 of those will be plain colored sleeves for pauper commander decks). I love the way 2 legion packs of 50 is automatically 100 so if I counted wrong I catch it more easily.
I originally bought sleeves that fit the themes of specific decks, but then they got shifted around. I don't know why it matters since everyone announces their general when they start a new game ... hmmm ...

I use sleeves with art on them, but mostly because I get annoyed at not knowing which way is up and which way is down on solid-colored sleeves. But I use ambiguous ones rather than guild sleeves that reflect the colors of my deck, because I like to imagine that it makes a difference.
The Ultra Pro art sleeves are also stiffer than their solid-color sleeves, which makes it easier to support my nervous habit of shuffling my hand constantly.
I use solid color sleeves for my tokens, but the color matches the card. White sleeves for spirits, black sleeves for vampires, etc. It seems like it just might be for vanity, but when I'm fishing them out of my rather full deck box of tokens, it actually makes it a lot easier to find the one I'm looking for.

I'm not a big fan of the ultrapro art sleeves for three reasons. Enough shuffling and the cover for art tends to peel off and do not look as nice in the long run as they originally did and they split just as easily as the regular ultra pro ones. Finally, the ultra pro pro fit sleeves do not fit nicely in them.

I actually shuffle a little differently with them, facing the bottom of the cards away from me. This ensures that when I'm mashing them all together, the open side of the sleeve is not the one receiving all the stress, so it doesn't split open. (It also ensures that my opponent doesn't see my bottom card, which is something that I've let happen in the past.) In the end it actually turned out to be a better way to shuffle and I use it in decks where I use different sleeves as well.
Besides, you may have noticed a touch of sleeve obsession in my post above. I don't deny it. I also replace my sleeves far more often than I probably need to, and therefore spend much more money on sleeves than I probably should. But it does mean that I never let sleeves get to the point where they split or begin to look bad, whatever kind of sleeves they are.
June 19, 2013 10:03 a.m.
I also think that I spend more than I probably should on sleeves. But for a person who is more interested in playing the cards than collecting or investing in cards that will go up in value in the future, sleeves seem pretty important. I don't even own a physical trade binder, actually. But I have 8 sets of 100 sleeves! That's like, $80 invested! Wow! And I see 2 more sets that I want to get which will bring that up to a little less than $100. I really wonder about that, but I really enjoy the art on those sleeves. It does add something to the game, I think.
But the sleeves will make the cards retain their value / playability over time. And since most of my cards right now are sitting in a sleeve in a deck ready to be played - that's also convenience that I am paying for.
There is actually a real issue with sleeves splitting and getting marked or peeling! You can mark cards in your deck that way! It's not good! So far only one of my sleeves got damaged and I have that one on the commander so it's fine.

I mostly use solid black or solid white sleeves for my decks. Once a deck rotates out or I make a new one, I still have sleeves that I can use and that don't look funny - a Boros aggro deck sleeved in ZEN Islands is pretty ironic.
However, when I won a tournament way back when ZEN was the newest set, I was told I could go get some free sleeves so I chose the Sorin Markov ones to go with my mono-black vampires deck. Now that the deck has been rotated out for a long time, I don't have a new deck I can appropriately sleeve with them... The one benefit of these sleeves was that they didn't slide all over the place like my solid colored ones.
At one point, I got a pack of 200 sleeves for maybe a dollar. This was years ago, and little did I know that you're not allowed to use sleeves with a shiny/"reflective" back. Now, they are thick due to a rough pattern on the back, so I never sleeved an actual deck in them. But when I tried to play against a guy at my LGS with a casual deck in these, he went ballistic -- he told me I was cheating because I could use the backing to see what the next card was in my library. I asked around the store and multiple people told me the same thing. My friends and I have spent hour upon hours trying to figure out how this is even possible, but to no avail. Anyone have any clue what they were talking about?
Currently I use these sleeves for sideboards, Commanders, and to double sleeve my more expensive cards inside my binder, so they are not going to waste. I'll probably end up sleeving tokens too.

My poison deck has a red deck box and these green ultra pro sleeves. It looks all radioactive and just makes sense,

Generally I use black sleeves, they look more formal and just better in general. My casual deck has Black sleeves with Nicol Bolas symbol on them. Other games that I play are usually just whatever I can find.
