Best vanilla cards

Up until recently ive neglected the charm of vanilla cards. some of them, however plain, have pretty nice quirks to them, either in flavor or relativity between mana cost and power/toughness. My question being... on building a deck, what vanilla cards would you most likely consider putting into it? (maybe we should leave out french vanilla for another post...) I think a lotta people would put Leatherback Baloth down as THE vanilla card to have but what if you're playing more than one color? so maybe wed've already established it's a good card, but what else is good in your opinion?

Hard to put a thumb on the best vanilla creature out there. I do like Runeclaw Bear and all similar vanillas. A 2/2 for 2 mana is always kinda nice. vanilla or no.

Savannah Lions is the original best vanilla creature ever, though he's since been replaced by an uncommon with a more relevant creature type...
