Exchanging control of Steel Golem.

I know that Steel Golem says that you can't play creatures. I was wondering what would happen if I exchange control of it. I can't remember the card I have that allows exchanges but say I had an Avarice Totem and swapped cards with my opponent. If my opponent has control of the golem does that mean that they cannot cast creatures or does that still apply to me?
