Ive been playing magic for a few months now and finally wanna get into edh. i would like to build around the 99/99 for 15 black monster known as big furry monster. i obviously need manna ramping and card searching/scry or just drawing a ton of cards. I'm not too familiar with a lot of cards with those abilities so what do you guys suggest i put in this edh. and i also need a commander. defiantly black with maybe one or two other colors. not too fond of green but I'm up to checking stuff out!

The card is from unglued, which is a non-legal set (a joke set). It's not legal in any format but casual, so that means it's not legal in EDH

If you wanted to do it anyway, Tooth and Nail is a must

EDH is casual, and as such, you are welcome to use all the Unglued/Unhinged cards you want in your EDH deck.

kyuuri117 that's not entirely true, but as long as he asked his playgroup and made sure they were cool with it I doubt there would be a problem.

EDH is a social game... it is a political game... it is a multiplayer game. However EDH is only as casual as the group of people playing. There is nothing casual about a pod of 5 people sitting down with the 5 of the most competitive decks, all playing to win. Don't worry kyuuri117, it's a common misconception and a mistake most people make. There are rules about what is legal and what is not, and currently commander is played with vintage legal cards and therefore the unhinged and unglued cards are deemed illegal barring any house rules.

This is the EDH ban list [link](http://www.mtgcommander.net/rules.php)

It says nothing about Unhinged/Unglued cards not being allowed. And as such, EDH not being an official MTG format, i'd have to assume they are perfectly legal in the format.

And EDH is a casual format. I said nothing about it not being competitive, it's damn competitive with some groups, mine included. It's just not an official WotC format.

EDH is actually an official MTG format... There are sanctioned tournaments everywhere now, I was at GP AC yesterday and there were on-demand EDH tournaments firing off all the time.

Those cards aren't on the ban list because those cards aren't an official MTG expansion. They're only "legal" in Unglued/Unhinged limited

You can also look up the cards on gatherer, commander is listed as a format and none of the unglued/unhinged cards are listed as legal there.

Ah, my bad. Figured since they don't specifically state they are banned, that they weren't.

They don't use the words, "the unglued and unhinged cards are banned". However, if you look at the link you listed, the very first thing it says when you click the link for Banlist is "Commander is played with vintage legal cards. Cards are legal to play with as of their sets' prerelease". A quick look at what is vintage legal will show you that the unglued and unhinged sets are not vintage legal.

I have learned a good amount for my first thread haha. aside from the legitimate legality of Big Furry Monster, what will help me get it on the mat?

But thank you guys so far for the information.

Tooth and Nail as I mentioned. There are a lot of other tutor cards in Magic, especially black - Diabolic Tutor is simple, there are many more that are better but cost more money. There are reanimation spells that can bring them onto the field, check out some of the comments on the card's Gatherer page for some ideas.

I'm not sure how a 2-card commander (or in general) would function. Would they have a separate commander tax? Here is a relevant ruling:

*Can I cast Animate Dead on B.F.M.?

No. Animate Dead can target only one creature card. Although B.F.M. is considered one permanent (and one card) while in play, it is in fact two cards when in your hand, graveyard, or library. B.F.M. cannot be brought into play unless both pieces are brought in at the same time (say by Living Death or Incoming!)."*

The two card rule I assume would apply to exile and thus the command zone. So would it start with a cost of 0 and go up from there?

It wouldn't be the commander, just the main theme. I would suggest a commander that gives you a tutor or draw effect like Damia, Sage of Stone, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, etc. You can do a Gatherer search for that type of thing or just make a thread specifically asking for good commanders within the colors you want
