Rust Bucket

Custom Cards forum

The phrase "rust bucket" is too good to not make a card with that name, so here is what I have conceived:

Rust Bucket Show

What does everyone else think of this card? It has a very simple and straightforward effect, and can be used only once, unless a play has a way to return it from their graveyard.

I’d make it cost . Zero-costed artifacts are rather dangerous since they can be abused for Storm or Cheerios. Solid removal that also freely increases storm or provides artifact ETB/cast triggers seems a bit terrifying.

Edit: Also Affinity. Another powerful deck type that would love a free artifact that can double as removal.

At least if you increase the CMC you can decrease the activation cost :)

Omniscience_is_life - I disagree. At its cheapest, destroying an artifact costs 1 colored mana Smelt, Oxidize, etc.

In colorless, there should be a premium to have pure artifact removal. A total of , mitigated some by the ability to spread the payment across two turns, would be relatively reasonable for a silver bullet that would shore up a significant weakness of Mono Black and Mono Blue.

Caerwyn touché. Perhaps have it come into play tapped? Or would Amulet players love that? I really have no clue dude, I'm out of my league :)

I have to agree with Caerwyn here. A free artifact that doubles as removal is amazing, and I sure as hell would abuse it in my Alela, Artful Provocateur deck. I'd even take it at 2cc.

Firstly, there’s a great site error where it says the last comment was “1 hodinu ago”, and secondly, I really like this card for my Jhoira/lab man EDH deck. Cheap artifacts are broken in that deck, since there are cards that reduce the cost of artifacts.

In certain deck archetypes, the fact the ability is on an artifact instead of a card in hand is an advantage. Especially in anything where artifact count matters like affinity or for storm storm counts or in cheerios or wheel type decks.

It also changes how to tutor for it making it a better card choice depending on the deck.

I also think the activation cost should remain 2. Making it cost too little and being convenient trivializes other colors having an advantage in that regard.

Since most users agree that a cost of 0 mana makes this card too powerful, I increased it by 1, as seen, here:

Rust Bucket Show

Now what do you think of it? Should I decrease the activation cost, or leave that as it is?

It looks great to me!

As I said above, I think for casting and for activation seems quite reasonable for something this limited in scope. Would make it a playable card in EDH, particularly in artifact-heavy metas, without being so inexpensive that it would be an easy auto-include.
