Ok so i'm getting a lot of info flying at me at my local shop. Some people are telling me that Zur the Enchanter is banned as a general from EDH. Others tell me he is legal. Others tell me he was banned and now is not anymore. Can anyone clear this up for me? thanks.

If you are playing by the french 1v1 rules, then yes Zur the Enchanter is most certainly banned. If you are just playing casual, then you may play zur and get hated on...

According to these, Zur the Enchanter is only banned as a Commander, and only in 1v1 games that use the French Banlist.
He is not banned for inclusion as a creature in a deck.

You may want to check with your group's house rules an see if they have house banned.
Zur is not banned in normal EDH but he WILL draw a ton of hate. If you played him in my playgroup expect to die first and get ganged up on.

Lol my friend haven't banned my zur deck they have just refused to play it until they finish their non-casual decks.
they still play it from time to time. They always hate me though. Sovereign, of Lost Friendship is it. I haven't updated it in a whole because I have been busy making a deck they will play, Glissa, the Traitor

thataddkid@ seriously? Well if I ever use my Roon deck for a one on one game I now have a easy sub for my Sol Ring .

...One more reason never to play French!
Why would I want to play competitive 1v1 in a format designed as Multiplayer anyway?
So, I repeat... Never sub Sol Ring ..!!

I'm assuming he's running Sol Ring regular, and he would swap in Sylvan Primordial if he was playing french.

In 1v1, there are way better things to be doing by 7-mana than play Sylvan Primordial if you are ramping, and if you aren't ramping, you've probably already lost by 7 mana.

From what I know, Zur has been banned as a Commander in French Tournament play ONLY. Now, if the rule in your shop/tables are you have to adhere to those guidelines, then yeah, he is out.
I play with a Sol Ring in my EDH deck, but I do not do tournaments.
