Puresteel Paladin EDH General?

Commander Deck Help forum

So I am thinking about making my first EDH deck. I have a lot of experience with modern and standard. No I'm not going to buy a premade... (I know they are good.) but I wanted to use puresteel paladin as the general. I could not find any deck lists online with him in EDH. Is there a reason why? Please give me feed back if I should do it or if it's a waste of time. Also if there is any good combos with him that would work well in EDH please let me know. :) thanks a million peeps.

for EDH, your commander can only be a legendary creature. Puresteel Paladin is not. If you want an artifact theme with puresteel in the 99, I would roll with Kemba, Kha Regent. :)

He isn't a Legendary creature, therefore he cannot be the general of an EDH deck. There are alternatives generals that utilize equipment

One of the first rules of Commander is that your commander must be a legendary creature. Puresteel Paladin is not a legendary creature.

A better voltron commander is Eight-and-a-Half-Tails for mono colored because she can protect herself and make herself unblockable. NensouHiebara has a good deck around 8.5

I personally prefer Bant so I went with Derevi, Empyrial Tactician since she dodges the commander tax and can be recast as many times as you want without paying extra. She's also got some pretty sweet abilities.

That being said, lots of player groups allow you to run non-legends as commanders as long as everybody's on board and the card isn't bonkers. It all comes down to what you want to run as a commander and why. Many people like running one of the Nephilim as commanders, for example. Ex. Dune-Brood Nephilim. In all honesty, you're better off with another general, but the option's always out there.

To be fair though TheDevicer, people allow the nephilim mainly because they are the only proper 4 color creatures in existence.

You are correct that EDH is mostly about a playgroup though.

I mention the nephilims because they're the most commonly played non-legendary commanders that I know of. Still, I'm sure plenty of people would be willing to put up with interesting creatures like Sage of the Inward Eye as commanders. Heck, from that cycle, Kheru Lich Lord is essentially Sedris, the Traitor King anyways.

TheDevicer Agreed, just pointing out the actual reason for the nephilim.

If you really want to make a Puresteel Paladin deck talk it over with your playgroup, they might be ok with it.

(Maybe not though, Puresteel as a commander seems a bit nuts especially curving into a Sword of X and Y on T3 with a free equip.)

"Hey guys, is it cool if I play with this guy as my commander, don't worry there's not that much equipment in the deck. promise."
