What is a Bird? —Sept. 28, 2022
No, this isn't just an annoying question that first year ornithology students ask; it's genuine. What is a bird? It's a question I've been wrestling with, and I think nothing's better to help hash this out than to use the tried and true adage as to why Storm Crow is so good.
- It only costs 2 mana
- It has evasion
- It has 2 toughness
- It can carry equipment
- You can pitch it to Force of Will (maybe someday)
Why do I bring this up? I've discovered two painful truths about the deck. the first is that the 3 drop slot is bloated and needs excessive trimming. My opening hand is typically rich with 3 drops and no additional curve to help sort things out. The second truth is that hitting land drops 3, 4, and 5 are weirdly difficult in this typical 37 land deck. I fumble at the start of every early game and don't find a good birdy-footing until land 5 or 6 when my equipment become viable. So, with the sake of curve and consistency in mind I need to make a few changes.

This is a trade for consistency over power and will hopefully smooth the curve some. I'm going to keep an eye on it and may add in other 2 drops if need be.
