Here Comes A New Win Condition!! —Aug. 26, 2012

So, the whole Lone Revenant thing has been floating around the Grixis scene a little while. Patrick Chapin had it in a few of his lists, and I'd heard anecdotal evidence of how good it was, but I think I was using multiple copies of Olivia Voldaren and Grave Titan and liked them too much to consider going over to a card that needs to be the only creature on my side of the board to really be effective.

Then today, I saw Austin Yost just barely not finish in the prize money at SCG Denver (incidentally, he was my round 1 opponent at my first-ever SCG event, where he stripped my Mono Red deck for parts with U/W Delver. Super nice guy though) with Grixis Control featuring Lone Revenant.

Then I realized that he works really well with Planeswalker threats.

Then I thought about how great he could be with Batterskull (even though they are both 5-drops, and Batterskull costs 5 to equip, it would not be easy to get one on him. But STILL).

Then I thought about how little fun I'd been having with Wolf Run lately. So we're going back to Grixis! I think the plan is going to be to take out the Staff of Nin, Grave Titan, and Olivia Voldaren and throw in 3 Lone Revenant. Not sure who's going in the board, or what. I'm going to leave in the Batterskull despite the obvious curve clash because combining those two is just a cream dream supreme.

Of course! I did see that you had a Liliana on the field during the crazy game against that Delver player, how was she working for you? From what I saw, things were going pretty well.

Yeah, Liliana of the Veil is pretty effective against Geist of Saint Traft. And if you can get her to stick around, the hand destruction helps close things out. But she's pretty excellent out of the board against mono green and mono black also.
