Would Body Double entering as a Progenitor Mimic work?

Asked by AwesomeOctopus 7 years ago

Lets say I have an Acidic Slime on the field as well as a Progenitor Mimic in the yard. I play Body Double and have it enter as a copy of the mimic. Would it entering as the mimic let me copy acidic slime and get a new acidic slime copy on each of my upkeeps or would it die as a state based effect from copying a 0/0 in the yard?

Copy effects stack in the way you think they would, for the most part. In this case you would get a copy of Progenitor Mimic that is copying Acidic Slime, meaning you'd get a fresh new Slime on each turn.

from the gatherer on Progenitor Mimic:

"Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied creature will trigger when Progenitor Mimic enters the battlefield. Any as [this creature] enters the battlefield or [this creature] enters the battlefield with abilities of the chosen creature will also work."

So it will enter as the slime, but with the added ability of a copy each of your upkeeps.

The most interesting play I seen was somebody playing mimic with an anthem in play and not copying anything. then casing clone copying mimic, which copied the mimic with the added ability. So each turn he got a mimic token that he could make into any other creature.
