What happens to phases when a player looses?

Asked by keyno 9 years ago

It's a 3 player game. I'm player one. In player two's turn, I use Cloudshift to blink my Elderscale Wurm saving it from Wrath of God. Then player 3 hits them with a Lightning Bolt finishing them. they've lost the game.

Is there an end step for my Elderscale Wurm to come back in, or does it now move to player 3's turn right away? Without an Elderscale Wurm I loose the game during their turn. Otherwise, it'll get to my turn and I'll win.

So you can see, big deal.

There's a few problems with your question, I'm afraid.

Firstly, Cloudshift won't save your Elderscale Wurm from Wrath of God.

Here's what will happen with that:

1) Opponent casts Wrath2 You cast cloudshift3 Cloudshift resolves, blinking the Wurm. The wurm goes into exile, then immediately returns.4 Wrath of God resolves, destroying all creatures, including the Wurm.

In the general sense, creatures exiled by Cloudshift return immediately, not at the end of turn. If it wasn't for the Wrath of God, you would get your Wurm back immediately.

I think that your Elderscale Wurm should come back, but what do I know. I have no idea.

Cloudshift will not protect fr9m wrath, as it blinks it out and back in the spells resolution, not at end of turn.

If you had a return to battlefield at end of turn effect, then it would survive the wrath, and would return to play per:

800.4h If a player leaves the game during his or her turn, that turn continues to its completion without an active player. If the active player would receive priority, instead the next player in turn order receives priority, or the top object on the stack resolves, or the phase or step ends, whichever is appropriate.

Thanks. Was thinking cloudshift was an at end of turn thing, but that makes sense. Thanks all!

For everyone that said Cloudshift wouldn't work, just to update you, I just now remembered that the card i'd used was Turn to Mist, which behaves as above. Got them a little mixed up haha.

Thanks again all.
