What happens to opponent creatures?

Asked by risedo 4 years ago

Artful Dodge + Treeshaker Chimera Chimera forces all creatures to block (able to do so) and Artful Dodge makes it so it can't be. So are they just tapped or what? Also let's say Treeshaker Chimera has trample and is blocked by 3 1/1s does that mean it does 21 dmg or 5? Ty lil new to mtg

If you cast Artful Dodge on a creature no creatures are able to block it. If you cast Artful Dodge on Treeshaker Chimera "all creatures able to block" it are none, so no creature blocks it.

Why would your opponents creatures become tapped by this interaction? I think there may be a deeper misunderstanding here.

When you assign combat damage each creature deals damage equal to its power. You would deal 8 damage and it would be assigned as 1 to each of the creatures and 5 to the defending player.

To elaborate on a common misunderstanding I’ve come across from many players: blocking does not cause those creatures to become tapped. Whether or not that’s what is going on here with the randomly tapped creatures, I can only speculate.
