Soul Diviner and Cumulative Upkeep age counters

With Soul Diviner on the battlefield and a cumulative upkeep card as well, say for example Glacial Chasm , at the beginning of my upkeep I put the first age counter on the Chasm. If I remove the age counter after it's put on the Chasm and before paying the upkeep cost, does the cost look at the number of age counters that were on the Chasm when the trigger occurred i.e. 1 or does it look at the number of age counters that are currently on Chasm i.e. 0. Thanks

Cumulative Upkeep is a single ability that both puts a counter on the permanent and then requires you to pay a cost for each counter. There is no point that you have priority to activate abilities in between the two things happening. The most you can do is remove the counter each time after Cumulative Upkeep resolves so that you are only paying for one counter each turn.
