Pyromancer Ascension + Desperate Ritual
Asked by Staro 9 years ago
if my Pyromancer Ascension is on the board with 2 or more counters on it and I cast Desperate Ritual
Does this result in gain 6 for
I do apologize for a bad example. But the argument I had with a friend was rather about the way spells resolve when in this scenario. Let me give another example:
Pyromancer Ascension is on the board with 2 counters on it.
I play Empty the Warrens with a storm count of 4.
So that would produce 10 goblin tokens in a normal situation.
But given that I have Pyromancer Ascension with 2 counters I think I now get 22 goblin tokens. My friend thinks it should be 20. But wouldnt the copy count the card it copied? hence make it 22 goblin tokens?

The important bit to note is that the Storm mechanic cares about spells cast before it and that the spell itself is being cast. Copies of spells are merely placed on the stack instead of being cast.
So in the scenario you described. You'd have Empty the Warrens you cast, 4 copies of it from Storm, and 1 copy from Pyromancer Ascension. So 12 goblins in total.

so how does flashback effect this? its the same card but different spell? so flashbacks affect storm?

Flashback
You may cast this card from your graveyard for its flashback cost.
Since it's being cast from the graveyard a card being flashbacked will up the Storm count.

Yes, provided it has the necessary counters on it Pyromancer Ascension will trigger copying Desperate Ritual and assuming everything resolves as normal you'll end up with six red mana in your pool. Was there some confusion as to why it wouldn't do this?
