Can I use lets say Shock to target a player and then have it redirected to a Planeswalker

Also to go off of that that is the bst way to do it. Most people use shortcuts and say I will Shock your planeswalker. When you do that they might respond s they dont want their planeswalker to die. But you always have the option to target the player and when they let it resolve you redirect the damage to them.

THe only time you have to target planewalker directly is when attacking.

@ZomBee_Hunt: Minor nitpick, but attacking does not target. There are also some spells/abilities that can target planeswalkers (including any spells/abilities that can target permanents of any type).

Well duh and I didn't mean actual target with attacking but attacking them directly
