Morph and blinking the creature

Asked by Fizzz 9 years ago

Hello!

I did not play during Onslaught or Time Spiral blocks, and I am not very sure as to how the morph mechanic interacts with cards that "blink" the creature, like Cloudshift .

If a morph creature is blinked, what happens? Does it come back into play face up? And what happens if that morphed creature has a triggered ability when it is turned face up like Voidmage Apprentice , does it trigger after it comes from blink land?

Yes, it comes back face up. No, it won't trigger an ability like that.

When an object changes zones, it the game treats it as a completely new object with no relation to what it was before (minus a short list of exceptions; for example, Cloudshift knows which card in exile is the one it took from the battlefield). "Face up / face down" is a status for a permanent, just like "tapped / untapped", and the default state of a card is face up. Unless the effect moving the permanent card specifically says otherwise, the card will be face up in exile and will enter the battlefield face up. The card was never actually "turned face up", it just entered each zone with a particular status.

The classic trick from Onslaught-era Standard was to use Astral Slide to get a face up Exalted Angel . Good stuff.

My apologies Rhadamanthus, but I am not quite sure I understand the difference between Cloudshift temporal exile and Astral Slide 's at the end of turn exile :/

Duh,

I was still thinking about the ability that could be triggered, nevermind :D
