Medomai + Capsize + Humility

Asked by DaddyRabbit78 7 years ago

I'm looking at decks that feature Medomai the Ageless as the commander. I'm reading that Medomai the Ageless + Capsize + Humility = Infinite turns, but I'm having a hard time understanding how that sequence works.

Here is the quote, "Have Medomai and Humility in play. Attack with your 1/1 with no abilities, then Capsize Humility to your hand with Buyback. When Medomai hits, repeat for infinite turns."

Can't quite get this figured out in my head since Medomai isn't allowed to attack on the extra turns. How are the extra turns granted?

Thanks!

It seems to me that the idea is that when you play Humility again, Medomai will lose the "can't attack" ability, so you're no longer restricted.

Medomai the Ageless' ability will only restrict him from attacking if he actually has it at the time attackers are declared. If he doesn't (because of Humility in this example), then he's allowed to attack just fine. If Capsize removes Humility before combat damage is dealt, then his turn-granting ability will trigger. This combo works.

So, assuming all the mana is available to use and there are no blockers:

FIRST TURN:

Medomai the Ageless and Humility are out. Capsize is in hand.

Declare Attackers Phase: Attack with 1/1 Medomai the Ageless

Declare Blockers Phase: Capsize Humility with Buyback, both come back to hand. Medomai the Ageless is now 4/4 with all abilities.

Combat Damage Phase: Medomai the Ageless deals 1/1 combat damage and the Extra Turns ability triggers.

EXTRA TURN:

Main Phase: Play Humility and hope it isn't countered.

Declare Attackers Phase: Medomai the Ageless is now allowed to attack because the "can't attack" ability is lost.

Declare Blockers Phase: Capsize Humility again with Buyback

Combat Damage Phase: Medomai the Ageless's Extra Turn ability triggers again.

REPEAT

Is that correct?

The only thing you have wrong is the damage; at the time Medomai the Ageless hits your opponent, it is a 4/4 again, so it will deal 4 combat damage.

Otherwise, yes, that is how the combo works
