Kruphix worldpurge mana interaction (or any non-turn based emptying effect)

If i have a Kruphix, God of Horizons, which is then exiled with an effect like Banishing Light, and then immediately after Worldpurge is cast, what would occur to any mana that had been stored using kruphix's effect?
My understanding is that his ability is a replacement effect whenever mana would be emptied from your pool, not just related to the turn, so it would replace effects from spells and abilities that also empty mana from your mana pool. In addition he would be returned to play in time to see the rest of the ability resolving due to it not being a trigger on Banishing Light like it would be if it were Oblivion Ring.
I am decently sure I have it right but it's a pretty complex interaction so I wanted to verify. Also, if I'm right but for the wrong reasons, I'd like to know, since all 3 parts of that are related to potential use cases.
Do you know where it might specify a definition for unused mana in the rules? Or is it just implied from the errata on the card specifying it is a replacement effect for steps and phases?

500.4. When a step or phase ends, any unused mana left in a players mana pool empties. This turn-based action doesnt use the stack.
Gatherer: 4/26/2014: As long as Kruphix is on the battlefield, unused mana will remain in your mana pool as steps and phases end (although it will become colorless). This means you can add mana to your mana pool and spend it during a future step, phase, or turn. Once Kruphix leaves the battlefield, you have until the end of the current step or phase to use the mana before it disappears.
This is the closest thing you can get to a definition by combining these two.

The mana pool would be emtpy after worldpurge resolves.
Kruphix's ability applies only to UNUSED mana. Unused mana is the one you have left over in the end of a step or phase. It does not apply other effects that empty mana pools during those very same steps or phases. Source:
