Jhoira / Suspend and other casting costs?

Asked by Zebgora 7 years ago

I am toying with the idea of putting Jhoira of the Ghitu in a commander deck that I think she would work really well with. My question is how does suspend work with alternate casting costs? For example, I know that for Prosperity X would be 0 so it would be pretty pointless. However, what about a card like Temporal Cascade that has an Entwine cost? Finally, could I Overload, say Cyclonic Rift?

You're confusing mana costs (Prosperity's mana symbol x), additional costs (Temporal Cascade), and alternate costs (Cyclonic Rift).

Suspend instructs you to cast the card without paying its mana cost. That's an alternate cost, so you can't pay the mana cost or any other alternate costs. You can, however, pay additional costs.

Thanks Epochalyptik! That really clears it up. So while I couldn't overload Cyclonic Rift, i COULD pay the entwine and use both modes of Temporal Cascade.

I had to ask this because to my usual play group, this is kind of a grey area and we could get hung up for a while. This post really helped a lot. Thanks again!
